What Knocks a Door Off Its Tracks
- A bump from the car. Even a slow tap on a partly open door can pop rollers out of the vertical track — the most common story we hear.
- A broken roller. One cracked or seized roller lets that corner of the door wander, and the next cycle pulls its neighbors out too.

- An obstruction in the track. A stray broom handle, a stone, or hardened debris forces rollers over the lip of the track.
- Loose track hardware. Lag bolts work loose over years of vibration until the track itself shifts away from the jamb.

The door is stuck half-open. Should I try to pull it down?
No — with rollers out of the track, the door's weight isn't controlled, and pulling on it can bring it down suddenly. Leave it in place, don't disconnect the opener release, and keep the area clear until a technician secures it.
Can a badly bent track really be repaired, or do I need a new one?
Gentle bends can usually be straightened on-site. If the steel has kinked or creased, that section is replaced — a creased track will keep catching rollers no matter how carefully it's massaged back. Your technician shows you the track and quotes both honestly.
I bumped the door with my car. Is the panel ruined too?
